FERTILIZE WHEN YOU PLANT?

Many experts would suggest not to fertilize when a person plants. I have seen the best results by using a balanced fertilizer (such as 12-12-12) on the surface, not in the hole. A slow release fertilizer is the safest purchase because of the decreased chance of burning, but it will cost more. There are many types of fertilizer so be sure to follow directions on the product. No matter what fertilizer is used, do not allow it to touch or be near leaves and branches.

Fertilize in the late fall or winter and again in late June. Specifically, liquid fertilizer is great for plants but does not last long. For that reason, customers need to use liquid fertilizer every two weeks in May, June, and July. In our area, a person should not fertilize in August, September, or October. Late fertilization could stimulate growth before the winter cold that could damage or kill the plants.

Choosing not to fertilize can cause serious damage to plants.  They may grow slowly and have anemic leaves.  Additionally, it can lead to high susceptiblity to disease and insects.

FEED YOUR PLANTS AS YOU SHOULD FEED YOURSELF!  This would be a balanced diet, regular meals, and moderation.
