                                 Housel's Nursery 1956

About Us
Housel's Nursery and Landscaping Inc. opened in 1940 as a Christmas tree farm. Some of the spruce trees planted by our founder, Charles Housel, are still growing in the back acres of the nursery. They provide a pleasant backdrop, as well as protection to the younger trees growing in our fields. After 15 years of successfully growing and selling evergreens, Charles' son, Myron Housel, took over the business and began to diversify the stock to include small shrubs and shade trees. As the business grew, so did its services. Landscape design and installation were added and Myron soon became known as the Shade Tree King.

In 1986, Myron handed the reigns over to his son, David, and his wife, Olga, who then began running the business. In the true spirit of family business, Dave's sons, Larry and David, have worked at the nursery along with Larry's wife Katie. The fifth generation is Larry's son, three year old Austin, who works part time making sure the gravel on the sales lot is properly spread.

Our Staff
Dave refers to himself and his staff as "Tree Touchers" because of the knowledge they have gained from hands-on experience with trees and shrubs. Together they boast over 200 years experience in the business.

Gary Stern
Landscape Coordinator
Gary has been with the nursery since the late 80's and is the man to see if you need installation work at your home. Whether it's planting a small tree or building a 25 foot tiered-stone wall, Gary has the knowledge and experience to get it done right. All you have to do is enjoy the results.

Cindy Tomsek
Landscape Design Specialist
Cindy is a Michigan certified landscaper that handles the artistic side of the business. Her specialty is creating unique landscape designs for homes and small business, but she excells at incorporating the plants customers want into those designs. Whatever it is the custumer wants, Cindy will make sure it appears perfectly in their yard.

Kevin Smith
Design and Installation Specialist
Kevin graduated from Owens Tech with a degree in Horticulture.  He obtained nurseryman certifications in both Ohio and Michigan making him a man of many talents. If you have a question about a plant or an insect, Kevin will have the answer. He can also provide landscape designs and personal installation.

Jim Butts
Installation Specialist
Other than Dave himself, there isn't anybody at Housel's that has more hands-on experience with trees and shrubs than Jim Butts. For over thirty-five years, Jim has been planting and landscaping.  He has yet to meet a yard he can't make look good.

Lynn Gray
Baller
A retired Bedford school teacher, Lynn now spends most of his time in our fields serving as a human tree spade. However, if you are one of the lucky folks who come to Housel's after 5 P.M. or on Sundays, you will meet Mr. Gray. He works on our sales lot from time to time dispensing the wealth of knowledge he has about trees, especially Dogwoods.
